Can you believe summer is over already? Now it's time to stop playing games, get to work and focus. The start of the next school year is approaching and there are a few things you should check off your to-do list.
Do your school shopping Do you have all the supplies you need? You're not just shopping for your dorm, your also shopping for your classes. Make sure you get everything such as pens, paper, ink, a planner and more! Do not forget your textbooks. Check in with your professors if they have not emailed you already with required textbooks you NEED to purchase. I highly recommend www.slugbooks.com
Check out your classes Are your classes set up the way you want them to be set up? Before classes start, be sure to make sure your taking the correct classes that fit in your schedule. Do you have everything you need for those classes? Your professor should have sent out a email with instruction, rules and other recommendations. Check it out!
If you are on campus, take the time to walk around campus to see where your class buildings are located.
Start Packing If you are commuting, no need to worry. If you are living in a dorm or apartment, start packing as early as possible. It is stressful and overwhelming packing last minute, I have been there multiple times. Pinterest has many different ways you can start packing up your things neatly and so that you have just enough space for everything. Meal Plan? Do as much saving as you can, figure out what meal plan you need for the semester if you feel as though you would like to grocery shop every 2 weeks, the choice is YOURS. Apply for EBT as well! Banking Many schools such as mines are in the middle of nowhere and sometimes it is hard finding your bank your are with. Avoid those transaction fees and open up another bank account that's around your school. That way, you do not have to worry so much about $0.67 coming out of your account unexpectedly. Check-list? Do you have everything you need? Check out Google.com or your schools website to take a look at the items you need for the semester. Got a car? Purchase a parking pass. Purchasing a parking pass may be the best option to choose from. If you want to save, there are other options to choose from such as the bus. Find a bus route that takes you to campus. Memorize your schedule Know your schedule before the first day of school, shoot, why don't you even walk around campus to find your classes! If you need help memorizing your schedule, best thing to do is screenshot it and set it as your lock screen on your phone! Meet new people Sometimes, it is hard to make friends but go out your way and step out your comfort zone to talk to new people whether it is in a club, in a new organization you have joined or the library. It is up to you to take advantage of everything college has to offer. Figure out your scheduling and goals Invest in a planner, write down all of your classes for each day. If you have a studying or gym routine, include that in. This could be the best way your fitting everything into your school. Set goals for yourself. What do you want to accomplish this semester? Are you aiming for all A's or B's? Do you want Deans List? Are you planning on joining an organization? Figure it all out and write it down somewhere you'll have access to. Start Growing When you first start college, you realize there are so many people who are still STUCK IN HIGHSCHOOL AND NEED GROWING UP TO DO. You have to realize when it's time to grow up and avoid going into your first semester with the mindset "I can't believe I am in college." Growth is a mindset. Start growing by handling things on your own such as getting a job with your own money, opening up a bank account or even doing your own FAFSA this year. It is okay to ask for help but sometimes you need to learn on your own. Don't shut your family out but just tell them "I got this, I have to learn on my own."
